In case you happen to pass through Kalyani Nagar around 8 am or 3.30 pm, you''d truly understand what a traffic jam is like. While the area already faces severe traffic problems thanks to the Ahmednagar highway, the IT Park and the Koregaon Park annexe bridge, transit problems within the residential vicinity are set to get worse.

"Thanks to the opening up of Bishops School in KN, there is daily traffic of about 800 vehicles, including cars, buses, rickshaws and twowheelers dropping off and picking up children during peak hours. This has opened up a veritable floodgate of vehicles and has created a big nuisance for residents," says Col. (retd.) M L Anand, chairman, Kalyani Nagar Residents Association (KNRA). Which is why Frank Freese, principal, Bishops School, has sought the help of the KNRA to ease the situation. "The stretch of road that connects to our school is only 80 feet, half of which is used by the school during arrival time," says Freese.

The Bishops School will be sponsoring four wardens who will be trained by the KNRA traffic wardens along with the traffic police, on how to guide traffic during peak hours of the school. The KNRA traffic wardens comprise civic-minded senior citizens, along with wardens provided by the traffic police, who work towards controlling traffic-related problems in Kalyani Nagar.

zahra.khan@timesgroup.com
